Ron Paul is Worth a Look

Everyone is saying Ron Paul won the Republican debate last week. This is largely because he didn't come across as just another dumb old white guy, and was not seen raising his hand in rejection of evolution.

But, hopefully the attention will stick, and people will pay a little attention to what the guy has to say, which is backed up in a long career and by a consistent voting record.

Unfortunately, we will not hear much about his positions in the mainstream media. They consider the campaign to be quixotic. By this they mean crackpot.

This is because he favors such things as demolishing the IRS.

When was it the American people became so infatuated with essentially burning a third of their salary? Why do we think it so important the ignoramuses in Washington DC determine what is best to do with our hard earned money?

When the constitution was drafted, an income tax was specifically prohibited. This is because the founding guys did not want to create a situation like we have now, where the first three hours of the day is spent earning enough money to waste on stuff we don't need nor want, and which in most cases, is actually quite undesirable.
There are some other good reasons to like Ron Paul:

--he voted against the Iraq War from the get go.

--He voted against the Patriot Act.

--He voted against the Marriage Protection Act

--he has never voted to raise taxes

--he has never voted to restrict firearms

--he voted against regulation of the Internet

--he has never voted to increase the power or authority of the presidency or the executive branch

--he refuses to participate in the, beyond lucrative, congressional pension plan

--he has never voted to increase the pay of congressmen

--he has never been a part of one of those "government junkets"

--he returns a portion of his office budget to the treasury every year.

-- he sponsored the States' Rights to Medical Marijuana Act and Industrial Hemp Act

You can take a look at a collection of articles he has written over the years here.

Of course, there are some things I disagree with him about, and he is kinda ugly, but there is no doubt he is the most pro-liberty presidential candidate to come out of a major party in a very long time.

I am one who believes Americans still want freedom and liberty, its just that we have have been slapped down so many times, we feel it is impossible to ever regain.

Maybe it is.

But, right now there is a presidential candidate who is running on the principle that we can take back all the stuff that has been yanked away by congress and a succession of presidents. Of course, this has been accelerated under the current idiot.

And if we care at all about finally doing something about the assholes in Washington who take our money, tap our phones and e-mail, tell us what to do in our bedrooms, get us into wars that not only cost lives and unbelievable billions, but make us less safe--then we should take a serious look at Ron Paul.

I'm sure I will be.
