42/43 Senators Who Voted Against Paid Sick Days for Rail Workers Were Republicans- They Deserve Blame Too
This sub has been blaming Biden for the rail strike bill and I agree that his decision to sign the bill to avert the strike goes against the thesis of this sub and is a middle finger to the working class. I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve blame.
However, there needs to be some nuance to these conversations.
Biden wanted to give the rail workers sick days. This is what he said: "Look, I know this bill doesn't have paid sick leave that these rail workers and frankly every worker in America deserves. But that fight isn't over, I've supported paid sick leave for a long time. I'm going to continue that fight 'til we succeed."
So why couldn’t the Senate give sick days to the rail workers? Because there were 43 Senators who voted against it. 42 of those Senators were Republicans (the 43rd being conservative WV Dem Joe Manchin).
Biden deserves blame. Yes. But let’s not forget that almost every single Democrat in the House, Senate, and White House WANTED paid sick days for rail workers but couldn’t pass it due to Republicans in the Senate. Let’s not forget to blame them too.
