Congress has not changed the federal auto fuel economy standard since it was imposed in 1975. It has been at 27.5 mpg fleet average for cars since 1989. I have a simple solution to boost fuel economy. LOWER the speed limit, then jack fuel taxes to subsidize mass transit, and let the market do the rest.
