"lesson" my math teacher gave me on the current/or upcoming Russo-Ukrainian conflict.
The main cause of this crisis is not Russia, Putin, or some other thing Russian related. It is the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline, and USA's wish that a conflict begins in Ukraine. For a while, Washington has been trying to get Europe to buy gas from THEM, but of course, NOBODY wanted to, because:
US gas is expensive
Russian gas is cheap (simple right?)
Now that we got this out of the way, I'll present you my teachers arguments.
Where do (active) gas pipelines go through? (You guessed it, Eastern Europe and UKRAINE)
First Scenario: If a conflict breaks out in Ukraine, ALL gas pipelines going THROUGH Ukraine will be shut down, thus limiting Russian Exports in Europe. This would ultimately give Washington the upper hand, so they can start selling gas to Germany (which is the country importing the most Russian gas in Europe). This plan doesn't even require NATO to enter a war/embargo Russia, as long as NS2P isn't active.
Second Scenario: If a conflict breaks out in Ukraine, AND the US (and nato) place an embargo on Russia, all russian gas exports would be redirected to (x country, don't know yet, most likely China?), thus, again, giving the US the upper hand, allowing them to sell gas in Europe.
Either way, in the end, the USA gains something. The US government WANTS a war to happen in Ukraine exactly for this reason.
2. This crisis, most likely, isn't a 1 way problem as people think. If you look throughout history, Major Powers collaborated a lot to achieve their goals/ Divide spheres of influence.
Think of it this way. You are looking at a boxing match. 1 corner is (USA), 1 corner is (Russia). The bell rings and they start fighting. At least that's what we see. But, in fact, before the match, they talked to one another to achieve a draw, and just get the money from all the marketing (conflicts in this case).
If a war breaks out and this turns out to be true, that USA and Russia are in fact just faking a conflict to achieve their goals, then we could look at a result that goes somewhere like this. (First, Russia, "embargoed" by the US, won't sell gas to Europe, thus giving Washington the power to sell their gas in Europe, and Second, without any real NATO intervention in Ukraine, Russia defeats it either militarily or economically through sanctions and establishes a puppet state/anything sphere of influence related.)
To me, this seems to be the most logical argument about this crisis.
(If I formulated/spelled anything wrong, my bad, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that you get the point)
