Geithner calls for up to $2 trillion more for banks

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner vowed on Tuesday to jumpstart the nation’s financial system, announcing sweeping new plans to aid struggling banks, spur lending and help beleaguered homeowners. The program will commit as much as $2 trillion in public and private funds to spur consumer and business lending.
